Performing Arts Program

At Bundoora Primary School, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to shine. Our vibrant Performing Arts program inspires students to discover their creativity, build confidence and experience the joy of performing in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Through engaging weekly lessons in music, dance and drama, students develop their artistic skills while learning the importance of teamwork, resilience, communication and self-expression. Whether they are singing with their class, creating dramatic performances, learning choreography or exploring a range of musical instruments, every student is encouraged to participate, take creative risks and celebrate their achievements.

One of the greatest gifts the Performing Arts can offer a child is confidence. Performing in front of others helps students develop self-belief, resilience and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone. As students rehearse, practise and perform, they gain valuable life skills that extend far beyond the stage, including collaboration, perseverance, leadership and pride in their accomplishments.

A highlight of our Performing Arts program is our spectacular biennial whole-school concert, where every student from Foundation to Year 6 performs on stage in a professionally produced production. With exciting costumes, vibrant choreography, engaging storytelling and outstanding music, the concert is a memorable experience for students, staff and families alike. It is an opportunity for every child to experience the excitement of performing and to create lasting memories.

Throughout the year, students also enjoy a variety of performance opportunities, including:

• Whole-school assemblies
• Mini concerts and class performances
• Book Week celebrations and performances
• Community performances
• Special school events

These experiences allow students to perform regularly, developing confidence and stage presence while celebrating their learning with the wider school community.

Our Performing Arts program is led by Mrs Nerida Newell, an experienced and passionate educator. Mrs Newell has an extensive background in musical theatre, choirs, live performance and contemporary music, and brings enthusiasm, creativity and real-world performing experience into every lesson.

Mrs Newell is passionate about creating opportunities for every student to succeed and ensuring that all children experience the excitement of performing in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment.

Students who wish to further develop their talents can also participate in our exciting extracurricular programs.

Rock Band

Our Rock Band provides talented young musicians with the opportunity to rehearse and perform contemporary music in a supportive band environment. Students regularly perform at professional venues and community events, including Schools of Rock, Musicland, and local secondary school concerts, giving them authentic performance experiences while developing musicianship, confidence and teamwork.

Crescendo Choir

Our enthusiastic Crescendo Choir welcomes students who love to sing. Choir members perform throughout the year at school assemblies, community events, local kindergartens and childcare centres, and festivals. These performances encourage students to develop vocal skills, confidence and a lifelong love of music while proudly representing our school.
